Hey alexyzye,

I have always been confused about the difference between the two. When I did my BA in the UK, we had to write a dissertation. But I've just finished my Master's degree (which I did at a Belgian university) and that required writing a thesis.

So, in fact, I'm still confused! I guess I'll just carry on using 论文for both, until someone tells me otherwise.

I totally agree with you Jen! I've had some of my best China travel experiences on trains. So much more exciting than the average uneventful English train!

I've been wondering how to translate 'sociologist'.

I was using 社会学家 previously, but now this seems like it was a mistake (as i'm not famous!) What can I use instead (in a professional context, e.g. a CV) ?
