May 22, 2012 at 1:05 AMI just left this comment on iTunes for CPOD app. I would like to share it on here too in hopes that someone at CPOD will read it.
When I started using Chinese Pod almost two years ago, they had a great app. It had a beautiful and clean interface, you could click to go into each lessons vocab list, dialogue, and expansion sections. You also could click on a word to show further examples. My question is, WHAT HAPPENED?! With each "upgrade" the app loses functionability and becomes more and more prone to crashing. I just downloaded a fresh version and each time I click on any tab is immediately crashes. Why not stick with the timeless adage "If it ain't broke don't fix it?" It's not that CPOD needs to pour massive capital into coming up with a workable app, I'd personally be very happy with the app that was available two years ago. I used to use CPOD all the time, it has been months since I've used my subscription, honestly just feeling the quality isn't what it used to be.

November 28, 2011 at 6:19 AMI've found that mainland folk can usually read traditional characters without much difficulty, but usually can't write em' on a blank piece of paper. They just know em' when they see em'. In the same way, I can type and read many more characters than I can handwrite from memory. I try to copy by hand the Cpod dialogues before I consider them studied, so hopefully someday I can have some fluency with a pen and paper, because like Dilu and John said, there is indeed no real need to write by hand, everything is on computers now. When written with great penmanship though, The Chinese written language is like an art. I read in the old days English penmanship also used to be extremely important, but that has sort of died out. I hope that doesn't happen to Chinese.

November 6, 2011 at 8:22 AMI have to say one of the great pleasures of recently moving to Beijing after two years in Zhejiang is that their dialect is so similar to Mandarin I can communicate even with the elderly. When in the elevator with an older neighbor and have a friendly chat, you wonder if that is the first time they talked to a foreigner in their life. It's also so fun to piratify as many words as possible up here. And thanks Xiao Meng for the new Beijing local vocab, except you lost me on the last sentence big time!

May 29, 2012 at 9:25 AMThe app is working this morning! I tried another fresh download and although it initially didn't show any characters and crashed, it seems that after clicking on OPTIONS it got the kink out, and now working great. That's awesome!
