Question: Is the 一（yi) in the third line of the dialogue 1st tone or 4th ?  I know there is a pop-up dictionary but there is a tone change rule that may apply in this context and I've been told that it's often not written down in transcripts

I think it's mostly only in Japan, with rare exceptions. And I agree with what you said about Japanese men. I'm not Chinese or Japanese, but I've traveled throughout various parts of Asia
