PaulC, Migrant workers come to the cities in China and can have a tough time. Without a residence permit, I think the benefits/salary are much less than a permanant city resident with papers. I think this applies more to construction workers rather than a "Starbucks employee." I'm no expert, but have done a decent amount of reading on the subject.

I believe this is a prototype of a perfect lesson! Having "real" characters with some emotion makes the learning go that much faster. My favorite lesson so far. 谢谢你

Kudos to Chinesepod for bringing up this touchy subject. You handled it perfectly with realism and class. I'm a newbie but couldn't help but peek ahead to this topic. I have visited 3 factories in China. 谢谢你
