April 23, 2009 at 2:59 PMhi,i am a chinese.in my opinion.for the character"喂",you can prounce it wei2 or wei4. wei2 is usually used when you answer the phone,for example,"wei2,who is that?"means"hello,who is that?".wei4 is usually when you give a warning,not associated with impolite words.but when you meet a person you do not know,you call him "wei4,who are you?".it maybe a little impolite
