June 13, 2010 at 12:15 AMBarrack? as in Barrack Obama? Haha, just kidding, but I had to look it up because this is the first time I've heard of it. I don't even think it sounds like an English word, as if it is an Arabic loan word or something. Well, I guess that makes bodawei and I even :-)

June 11, 2010 at 6:04 PMI just read an article today that said that the Brazilian team is uncharacteristically un-flashy in their style this year. They are emphasizing defense and teamwork. Some say the effort will result in wins, but it will not be as fun to watch as before.
I think the American team will do what they often do--better than what people expect but still not go all the way.
Oh yeah, Chinese...

June 11, 2010 at 5:03 PMSo you are rooting for the US because it is your country and Brazil because they are likely to win?

June 11, 2010 at 8:17 AMI'm not sure, but I think it is because the noun and the adjective both have two characters. Basically, they allow this because it keeps a rhythm that sounds nice to Chinese ears (or so I think I remember).

June 11, 2010 at 8:14 AMOh, by the way, for some reason I thought this was an intermediate lesson. Sorry about the overload of characters.
To summarize what I said:
A bunch of soccer hooligans are being turned away from South Africa, which makes me wonder why these ruffians are this way. Is it because they have mental problems, or possibly just bored?

(I'm still dreaming that some Chinese staff or what not can come here and talk about their experiences living in an area that they don't speak the local dialect), 英文,中文都可以。你们碰到了什么麻烦?
Perhaps there just isn't someone here that fits the bill, but it can't hurt to try one more time. By the way, are there any non-Shanghainese natives around here?

June 13, 2010 at 12:24 AMI'm rooting for America by default. We tied with the Brits, which is almost like winning in my book, as I expected less.
