May 31, 2010 at 5:22 AMI don't know if this series has taught numbers yet, so forgive me if this isn't the appropriate lesson. Anyway...
As what happens sometimes, a cashier (in Shanghai) gave me the total in Shanghainese.
liang kway say (2.3 RMB)
I actually didn't know what she meant by "say". I had to look at the register to know. I think it sounds more like 四 than 三. I am curious if Chinese from out of town have trouble understanding Shanghainese numbers, or if they are generally rather intuitive if one's first language is some sort of 中文?

May 28, 2010 at 3:09 AM在80年代中,存在一个叫《Twisted Sister》的硬摇滚乐队。

May 20, 2010 at 9:09 AMBritish/American difference? I can't speak for British English, but in American English, 'character' is uncountable, thus the sentence is correct. Perhaps you think by character they meant 汉字? If that is the case, you just read it wrong.

May 20, 2010 at 1:17 AMI have the advantage of liking both high and low quality coffee. I would agree with anyone that liking bad coffee is strange, but it allows me to reminisce late nights studying at Denny's. What this all comes down to is I avoid coffee shops in general in Shanghai. They are all too corporate for me. Just one notch above relaxing at McDonalds in my opinion. Thus, I too partake in the Nescafe. I don't like cream and sugar, though, so I don't buy the little packets. I buy 500 grams worth of instant "rich blend". I may be low class, but I sure can save some loot.

May 31, 2010 at 9:36 AMCPod,
Just curious, why was my picture removed from above? Did I break some rule? It was related to my comment, and I don't think it was distracting to learning Chinese. Again, not mad, just curious.
