A few days ago I went to Beijing. I feel that Beijing has changed a lot! The most noteworthy change is that the preparations for the 2008 Olympics are going like gangbusters. It really made me feel the grand atmosphere, now that Beijing is soon going to be the host city for the Olympics.
Really? Quick, tell me about it. I haven't been to Beijing for quite a few years now. I'm really looking forward to 2008, when I'll be able to go to Beijing to watch the games.
Me, too. I think it's not just Beijingers-- probably all Chinese people get full of excitement and expectation at the mention of the 2008 Olympics. As soon as I got off the airport I felt this atmosphere. ''Beijing Welcomes You" banners and the cute, laughing faces of the ''Fuwa" mascots are everywhere. It makes you think immediately of the friendliness and enthusiasm of the people of Beijing and of China. Even more significant, I made a special trip to the Summer Palace to take part in a countdown ceremony for the Games. It was really an unforgettable experience.
Wow! You were really so lucky! I also heard that the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games did a lot of work to create an Olympic atmosphere in Beijing. They've made a lot of improvements in public transportation, the city's water supply, and the construction of sports facilities. To make sure that the Olympics will be a surefire success, the Beijing municipal government even came up with a special plan in case of an emergency situation with the water supply. It looks like the entire country, from high to low, really puts a lot of importance on the preparations for this great gathering!
