In the solar system, Mercury is very close to the sun. Because of the high temperature from the sun, the ground temperature on Mercury is very high, which is up to 427 degree celsius. Therefore, Mercury cannot form a thick layer of atmosphere like Venus and Earth.

On account of the thin layer of atmosphere, it cannot reflect sunlight as much as the Earth does, and furthermore lead to the formation of Mercury's high temperature surface.
