Hey, what a coincidence! I was curious about this too, so I looked it up online. What we celebrate as Halloween today is actually called 'All Hallows' Eve,' which falls on October 31st. It originally started as a ghost festival of the Irish Celts, which is why people now celebrate it with playful and spooky costumes. Over time, though, its meaning has evolved to become more positive, joyful, and festive—almost like throwing a big party!
So that's how it is. In recent years, there have been more foreigners in China, and they’ve brought their culture here. However, unlike Christmas or Valentine’s Day, very few Chinese people know about Halloween, let alone celebrate it. Only in places with many foreigners, like bars, is there any festive atmosphere.
Yes, but I’ve also seen a lot of Halloween pumpkin lanterns in foreign supermarkets. Actually, there’s another important part of this holiday: kids asking neighbors for candy. They’ll go in small groups around their neighborhood, knocking on doors one by one and saying, ‘Trick or treat?’ If a household doesn’t treat them with something good, the kids will play pranks on them.
Natural Dialogues
Each lesson is centered around a natural dialogue with key vocabulary directly prepared and translated for your use. You can also listen to each sentence as an individual recording to improve your listening and comprehension skills.
