The surge in the Japanese yen has gone on to affect the Nikkei 225 stock market index. After opening low on the 18th at 16,883 points, the decline has continued, with the board going on to lose over 280 points, down 1.25 percentage points by end of trade, finishing at 16,724.81 points.

Compared to the gloomy outlook for Japanese stocks, the US stock market has staged a steady recovery after bottoming out on February 11, with a new high for the year achieved last Friday (18th), with a turn towards a positive trend in the market. The Dow Jones Industrial Average grew 0.69%, closing at 17,602.3 points, a new high for board closure since 30 December, 2015, the sixth trading day of growth in a row and the third week of growth.
