hi Helen,

Yes, today is mid-term elections. We are halfway through the President's term. Every two years, we vote for 1/3 of the Senate and all of the House seats. People are unhappy with lack of jobs and poor economy and so are voting against incumbent party (Democrats). With more Republicans coming into House and Senate, Obama (a Democrat) will have a harder time reaching his party's goals before he comes up for re-election in 2012.

Campaigning for a favorite candidate and watching election results is almost like a sport in the US. Most people are very interested in the results.
