Here are some tips:
The Chinese word for 'everybody' is 大家(dàjiā). When adressing a group of people, a common greeting is 大家好 (dàjiā hǎo)
美国人 is the noun "American (person)", not the adjective "American", and as such cannot ordinarily be placed right before another noun. Try instead: 我是(来自)美国的大学生.
