John: So, 志愿者，that 者 on the end tells us it's a kind of person, right?
Dilu: 嗯，对，是一种人
John: Right and in this case it's a volunteer
Dilu: 对，志愿者，志愿者
John: So the tones are 4, 4, 3, right?
Dilu: 是的
John: OK, now the context is that these are Chinese people talking about volunteering, so let's listen in on what kind of, uh, opportunities there are for young Chinese people
Dilu: 嗯，好的

Dilu: 嗯，什么？
John: Uh, what's the first word of the dialogue?
Dilu: 姐妹们，姐妹们
John: So, sisters, right?
Dilu: 嗯，对啊，第三声第四声和轻声，姐妹们
John: But they're not really sisters, it's kind of like girls, right?
Dilu: 啊，对，就是一群女孩子
John: Now, if I want to address a group of girls, can I call them 姐妹们

John: Is it because the 姐妹们 kind of includes yourself in the group of sisters?
Dilu: 是的，除非你觉得你就是one of the姐妹s
John: OK. I get you. But if you're a guy then you use
Dilu: 兄弟们，兄弟们
John: OK, to address a group of guys if you're a guy
Dilu: 嗯
John: Alright, got it, so, um, but one girl's missing, right? What's the question?
Dilu: 怎么还少一个，怎么还少一个

John: OK, 还少一个。So, you're probably used to 少 meaning few. But in this case 少 is more like a verb meaning to be short, to be missing
Dilu: 啊，没错，在这里呢少是一个动词，啊表示缺少
John: So, how come we're still missing one
Dilu: 对，怎么还少一个，怎么还少一个
John: Right, so this usage of 少 is actually pretty common so you'll want to get used to that
Dilu: 嗯
John: So, where's the girl?
