An article in the Australian press today talks about how China has not managed to create any global brands.
A list of the top 50 brands by value are at this link: http://www.wpp.com/NR/rdonlyres/CBAB6F8C-DE16-428C-AAE3-270912D3B8C4/0/brandz_china_2012_table_cn.pdf
It is interesting that unless you live in China, or study Chinese, you may not meet many of the top brands at all. The airlines, Tsingtao beer, maybe Haier, are recognisable. The second top brand is currently the largest bank in the world by market capitalization, but that kind of thing does not excite most people.
