John: OK, so making soup, right?

Dilu: 是的

John: And 汤 is 1st tone

Dilu: 没错第一声T A N G做汤，然后今天汤的名字那叫冬瓜排骨汤

John: So 冬瓜，that's two 1st tones, that's winter melon, right?

Dilu: 是的

John: And then 排骨，2nd, 3rd, is pork ribs

John: OK, so 冬瓜排骨汤

Dilu: 是的

John: One of the things I noticed in the beginning is that we have this phrase 喝汤

Dilu: 嗯

John: So literally 'drink soup', right?

Dilu: 对

John: In Chinese you drink soup

Dilu: 有问题吗？

Dilu: 不喝汤吗？

John: In English we often say eat soup

Dilu: 哦，因为这个汤里面有东西，是吗

John: Right

Dilu: 啊，但是在中文里面我们都是说喝汤不说吃汤

John: OK, got it. And then when the guy says that it's simple, it's easy, how does he say it?

Dilu: 他说很简单的，很简单的

John: So this 的，what is it doing?

Dilu: 说明非常肯定，很简单的

John: OK, so it adds this tone of certainty to the statement

Dilu: 是的

John: Alright, got it

Dilu: 那我们看一下是怎么做这个排骨汤的

John: Yeah, how do you make this soup? Go ahead.

Dilu: 他说排骨先冲洗一下，排骨先冲洗一下

John: OK, so 排骨 that's the ribs and then 先，that means 'first', right?

Dilu: 对，我们常常会听到先什么什么再什么什么，这个很常用

John: Yeah, like first do this then do this. In this case, we just have the 先

Dilu: 对，后面没有用再这个词

John: OK, so sometimes you can just use one or the other. So first you do what?

Dilu: 排骨先冲洗一下

John: And this is a pretty typical soup in China, right?

Dilu: 是的，是非常点心的一个中国的汤，那我们先来听一下对话看看是怎么做这个汤的

John: OK, so 洗 means to wash, so what is 冲洗

Dilu: 冲洗就是用水很简单的洗一下很快的洗一下

John: Like you just run the water over it, so it's like rinsing, right?

Dilu: 嗯，是的

John: You're not using soap or any other...

Dilu: 没有没有就是用水冲一下就可以了

John: OK and then what do you do?

Dilu: 用一个锅烧水

John: OK, so 锅，锅 1st tone, that means wok

Dilu: 在中文里面这个锅呢可以是各种各样的锅可以是烧汤的锅也可以是炒菜的锅
