June 04, 2013, 10:46 PMIt's an amusing pic, but we sail somewhat close to the wind if we air such topics here. Don't think we wanna see CPod 'harmonized' do we?

i think if it can be put on weibo then its ok here

Hi Adam, The key point is not what CAN be put on, but how long it lasts once it's up there. To my knowledge, this particular example didn't stay up too long.

Fine, but I don't think posting this on chinesepod should be a problem. Chinesepod posts relatively edgy material all the time.
I don't think we as users should have to tolerate or toe the line for Chinese internet censorship here anyway.

Adam,
I respect your views but must side with Tal on this one. Chinesepod is based in China and subject to local oversight. If it gets shut down then "we as users" will no longer exist as a category. And toianw is probably right: those clever weibo users whose posts go viral may not only see the post removed but also find themselves removed from posting privileges, I suspect. More than once I have seen staff members at CPod explicitly state that avoiding "sensitive topics" is a constant issue for them. I am not endorsing any particular policy, simply pointing out that we are, in fact, subject to it. And I do respect CPod's wish to remain as a going concern by staying within bounds.

I know a few Chinese people who have had their Wiebo accounts shut down. One was shut down just because he used the logo of Kuomintang, the opposing party that currently rules Taiwan as his profile picture!
