February 02, 2008, 05:38 PMgoulniky, It gave me a little scare when I tried to use your link, as it said my browser couldn't find the link. I went through a different path though, and it was still there.

January 30, 2008, 06:11 PMWell, it kind of depends on what they are counting. Are they counting *only* the lessons themselves, or the supplementary material as well (the fix, dialogue only, Qing Wen, etc.). If they count everything, then I count for 3 or 4 downloads a day by myself.

February 01, 2008, 11:37 AMThis seems to be the best place to say an oldfashioned goodbye to you, marcelbdt and, if I may take the shortcut, also to klgardensong, and to thank you for your contributions to the fun we had at group88! It was great while it lasted. Seeing the figures mentioned above gives me the right perspective on my personal disappointment -- I badly needed a lesson on the magnitude of this enterprise and the logically ensuing, understandable lack of accountability and true connectedness in this medium.

February 01, 2008, 12:14 PMliansuo> I don't at all understand your reaction, but if you don't want to continue studying Chinese texts together, that is sad, but I can't do much about it. It was nice as long it lasted.

February 01, 2008, 01:32 PMBut of course I do! There must be some weird glitch somewhere. I have not been able to access the old site for days (the way other 88ers have experienced it, you yourself commented on the phenomenon in response.) So I had to assume that everything just quietly died -- and that you, too, saw no way to go on and had given up. You have to remember: my Chinese is much older than my internet savvy and I have few resources to figure out technical solutions/causes etc. If you tell me how we three can meet again, the fun can go on. (I started immediately on the suggested text...)

February 01, 2008, 01:50 PMOh... I see.. My mistake! Sorry! I think that the problem with our group at 88groups is that we overloaded the only existing lesson with comments, so that there was a technical failure. Our old posts seem to be lost. When you try to get in, you are told that CPod knows about the problem, and that it will be fixed soon.I don't believe they will though...:) I have created a new group on the 88groups for us, called "reading". At least at the moment, this group does work. I'll keep making "lessons" in it where we can post, so that we don't run into the roof that brought down the Contemporary Chinese Literature group. Alternatively, I could set up our little group somewhere else, that would not be a big technical problem. But I like CPod, in spite of its size..:), and I would prefer to stay under its roof. This time I'll archive our posts at home for safety, so that we don't loose them again. Oh, if we are disconnected again, you can reach me at marcelbdt@gmail.com.(BRW, I tried to send you and klgardensong notes about this on the CPod message system, but maybe that system is also out of order)

January 30, 2008, 03:25 PMusing the 80/20 rules that 80 percent of the comments are left by 20 percent of the subscribers. There are about 50 regular comment providers so 250 would be about the total. Then there is the gym principle - signed up but never use it that would bring it up to 389, methinks. That leaves 249,611 who are on a free trial or just download the podcast!

February 01, 2008, 05:07 PMCalkins, Maybe you should just start it over from scratch. I hate to be the bearer or bad news, but perhaps the issue might be irreparable. 不好意思跟你说不高兴的消息啊!

February 01, 2008, 09:00 PMXiaohu, I thought about doing that, but I don't trust it now. It's too much work for it to possibly happen again. At least I can still enjoy the other groups available!

February 02, 2008, 03:00 AMMaybe 88groups got blocked by the chinese government for all the religous references (seriously, I'm not kidding).

February 02, 2008, 04:52 AMTaipan: LOL! I wouldn't doubt it one bit.

February 02, 2008, 04:01 PMre:Taipan, I never had a problem accessing my own 88newsgroup, it now has over 120 published lessons, quite a few of them on the subject of human rights, Japan, Taiwan... with articles from Western sources. If the Chinese authorities were bothered to check 88groups, I'd be on the frontline.

February 01, 2008, 03:22 PMOn a similar note, my 88group (Taiwan) is still inaccessible...it's been over a month now and no word whether the issues are being resolved or not:( Oh well, so much for that I guess...
