April 21, 2008, 06:07 AMUse it to log a project. One that I think might be interesting for you is (as billgloveruk already pointed out) observing foreigners learning Madarin - What do we struggle most with? - What came unexpected for you? - The role of culture in language learning - Ideas, tricks, mnemoics that work - What makes a good language teacher? - Do learners from different environments struggle with different language points? - What makes you angry?

April 21, 2008, 06:38 AMHi henning, Good suggestions! I also recommend Casie begins a blog targeted for foreigners, especially 老外 learning Chinese. Keeping such a blog written or posted in English would further improve her English, too. I hope she would show a lot of her photos on her future blog to “lure” stupid middle-aged guys just like ME. By the way, why there is NO new lesson today? The new media lesson “东航返航事件”, or something like that, disappeared about an hour after it was uploaded this morning. I haven’t listened to the lesson yet, but I don’t think it contains what is called “a highly politically sensitive issue” (高度政治敏感问题) in China!

April 21, 2008, 07:35 AMThanks guys for giving me some good suggestions. I think I was silly again. I originally thought to have some good blog websites from you guys. And I missed the word "websites" when I typed the title. How silly i was! Anyway, I got good suggestions. Yes, I like writing down some personal experience that i had experienced. I like to record/log the real life and my real thoughts. Some are public and some are personal. I had planed to write my internship diary, but i don't want to public it on my QQblog, you know, sometimes you will complain about something and sometimes your real thoughts are not accept by others. Henning, good suggestions, that is what i plan to write. Of course, it will be public one. May be i will call it "Cassie's bilingual learning world"? Is it weird? ummm, let me think a good one later. Changye, I never use English to write blog before, I consider myself good at using Cinese to express my own and real thoughts than using English. But you are right, it is good for me to use English to write the blog, that will help me improving my English. And about the pictures, umm, I will think about that. But I don't like the word "lure". So any good blog websites?

April 21, 2008, 08:10 AMoops, correction, it is "Chinese" not "Cinese". Typed too fast!!! Btw, I can show you some public diaries that i had written before, but it is all Chinese, in case you like reading Chinese.^_^

April 21, 2008, 02:34 PMoh, it took me about two hours to figure out blogger. It seems that the blogger's web speed is low. I still can not open it yet after writing one diary. Sigh I think i should try other websites, maybe some one that not so popular that will not have a large account of users.

April 21, 2008, 04:04 PMMy humble suggestion would be to go to google and simple type in "blog" (MY universal first step to find things on the net...). BTW google has a blogging service as well as far as I remember ^_^ 加油 cassie Ps: if changye would have used "to attract" instead of "to lure" you probably would have missed the humor "hidden" in the sentence ^_^

April 21, 2008, 05:27 AMChoosing a topic for a blog is difficult. I've made the mistake of drifting between topics with anything from travel, learning Chinese, software reviews and even some C# code all in the same blog (thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment by the way). Maybe that is a style in itself. Most importantly, your chosen topic should be something you are passionate about. It may seem obvious but something that involves personal experience is a good starting point. - Your internship - Your experiences (good and bad) of watch people learn Mandarin - A blog about interesting Chinese blogs that you find I'm not being overly creative here, but it has just gone 6am :s

April 21, 2008, 11:56 PMJoachim, I read that book about 6 months ago. I really enjoyed it. I believe that was her first book in English. It was really interesting how she wrote it....the main character's English is very poor in the beginning (after she moves to London), and gradually improves as the story progresses. Definitely a fun read. I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to get my hands on some of Xiaolu's films and documentaries. Anyone know where to find them in the states?

April 22, 2008, 01:06 PMHi excuter, I am afraid that my jokes might sometimes sound a bit rude to an innocent young lady. Anyway, I really appreciate your kind “covering fire”!!!

April 22, 2008, 02:28 PMchange and excuter, Due to my poor English, I should admit that I can not understand some humor in English or may be i should say I can not get those English humor very well. Same as some English slangs and street talks.

April 22, 2008, 03:12 PMcasie, sometimes humor does not depend so much on language or culture, but much rather on age and gender Us grumpy old men just have a twisted kind of humor sometimes. ;)

April 22, 2008, 10:31 PM你的英语很好但是我们的幽默很男人的样。。。 @ Henning I´m not old and I´m not grumpy! I´m 21 and single, that´s why this kinda humor is the one of choise (lonely...). As if I´d be grumpy...me... ;-)

April 21, 2008, 08:57 PMAlthough it is slightly off-topic: Has anyone read Guo Xiaolu: A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers? It contains some exploration into language learning, culture shock etc. Maybe, Chinesepod could do some very short (skype) interviews with Chinese authors in a way that even non-advanced learners could benefit from them? This might mean some heavy editing etc., but could also add to the glamour that surrounds Cpod already :)

April 21, 2008, 05:22 AMHi Casie, you should write about what you are passionate about, otherwise keeping up the blog starts to feel like a burden. Who is the audience for your blog - general public, friends and family, or very personal that nobody else reads? Off topic question: can anyone recommend personal blogs or podcasts that are in Chinese?
