Children's anime

July 18, 2008, 07:19 AM posted in General DiscussionI'd like to expose my daughters (7 and 4) to some Chinese to make it easier for them to learn the language later. My idea was to get them some fun TV program or movie that they'd enjoy sitting in front of even if they cannot understand the words.
Can anyone suggest anything suitable?
(They love the Pretty Cure anime, and a Chinese dub would be ideal: I don't suppose anyone knows where I could buy or download such a thing?)
Thanks!

July 18, 2008, 11:27 AMThere's a TV show, Ni hao Kai-Lan, you can find the episodes online (youtube etc.), it should be suitable for their age. It's designed for learners of Chinese.
Another way to expose them to Chinese TV is tuning in to CCTV 4 (online stream available), find out about the programmes that are on (and when), there are some hilarious cartoons. (i think there's even a Children's Channel)

I'll try showing them "ni hao kai-lan", and see if they show any interest.

October 09, 2008, 04:06 AMI heard that there used to be a Sesame Street chinese show called Xima Jie. Is that still showing in China? Anybody know where we can buy a copy?
Thanks!

I imagine that is just the Chinese name of the show, which is a literal translation. 芝麻街 zhi1ma2jie1-- "Sesame Street."

July 18, 2008, 09:12 AMHi darrencook,
I’m afraid that there is only 'Pretty Cure' in Japanese with Chinese subtitle, just like many other Japanese anime seen in China. The following link leads you to the page that shows you a lot of China-made anime. Please try to find works your daughters would like. Good luck.
