Also,I thought in Chinese culture there was more respect for age than in Western Culture [do people ever actually put their age up ? ..I mean apart from when trying to get into pubs underage like in the west ]

我看了几个视频节目，做得很不错。
看新闻学中文对书面语的提高有很大帮助。
另外把词语拆开来解释的方法也很好，有利于理解和记忆。
要注意的是个别词语的发音，比如措施，是“cuoshi”, 不是“zuoshi”.
