拔河ba2he2 tug-of-war
I saw a tug-of-war race(game) this afternoon on our college's playground! So I decided to post a thread here!^_^ It is a very interesting game! Have you ever play it before?

October 23, 2008, 01:33 PMBtw (light digression), I wonder why the famous German city of Bayreuth is called 拜罗伊特 in chinese instead of something like 百合 (or even 百合特) which would sound much closer.

October 23, 2008, 02:17 PMI’ve just found an etymology of “拔河” on the Internet, which has long been on my mind since I learned the Chinese word several years ago. “拔河” is originated in a military training done using boats in the river (河), in “楚国”, one of Chinese ancient kingdoms, about 2,400 years ago.
