It seems that the character "乞" can make its own phonetic group, such as 吃 (chi), 迄 (qi), 讫 （qi）, 汔 （qi） 忔 (qi) and 盵 (qi), although I don't know if you've already posted it before.

November 23, 2008, 11:58 AMchangye, you're quite right. I haven't posted the 乞 map yet but I will soon (you can check the full list of what has been and will be published here).
but it's not the only case of a phonetic compound that itself is serves as phonetic, 艺 (yì) is another one (albeit limited to 呓), 炭 (tàn) is possibly another, with 灰 (huī) as phonetic but appearing in 湠 (hūn) 羰 (tāng) 碳 (tàn).
I'm not entirely sure of that one though, the phonetic of 炭 may be 山. I think I have come across another one, but that escapes me now.
