September 07, 2009, 02:56 AM posted in General DiscussionEver since we started ChinesePod, we have been getting requests to offer a physical class. Now we are very happy to announce that ChinesePod School is here! We are currently offering the ChinesePod Great Start Course, a three-month, face-to-face course for beginners focused on speaking. The ChinesePod school follows our belief of 'learning on your terms'. You can listen to the podcasts and preview the lesson whenever you have time, and focus on speaking practice in the classroom. This approach makes learning more efficient and effective. Students registering in September will receive weekly classes with Jenny. Sign up now and make a great start!

June 10, 2010, 05:39 PMda jia hao! to the team and Jenny : Please, I would like some details about the school in Shanghaï. Is it possible to come only for 3 weeks in September? What would be the price and time-table..Do you help students to get accomodation or do you have rooms? Do you know how much the rates are??as I must confirm tomorrow my package to visit Yunnan first( before coming to Shanghaï) can you give me those details ASAP please? I do not find the right email adress for the school. I am a mature female student from France. Lots of thanks!

Thank you for your encouragement! We are all really looking forward to the school and what it can offer to students. If you come to Shanghai, you are very welcome to drop by!

September 11, 2009, 02:35 AMI'll be in Shanghai in October next year.
Don't think I'll have time to attend classes, but I WOULD like to meet Jenny!

September 11, 2009, 06:31 AMJenny: I wish you great success with your school!!
You should consider offering shorter courses also, as the majority of the CPod audience only comes to China in a vacation time slot. E.g. one-week or two-week crash courses.
Oh, and you could do field trips where people need to buy stuff for you in Chinese! :)
BTW: Your beautiful new avatar picture really does look professional! Done for a special event, I guess. Really pretty.

September 11, 2009, 08:56 AM@Henning,
Thank you for your suggestion! We've been getting quite a lot of requests for flexible, drop in classes. Worth looking into how we can run those.
@pinkjeans,
Thank you for your lovely comment. If all goes well, we'd plan to extend the reach. But obvioulsy we are extra focused on running the classes well in Shanghai first. Step by step.
@Henning and tal,
The new picture is the result of layers upon layers of makeup. But having the photos taken in a professional studio was fun.

September 11, 2009, 01:31 PM哇 Jenny!中国妇女怎么都这么 photogenic? You not only have to be beautiful, you have to be good at being photographed to end up with pictures like these. The non-professional models like my teachers in all such albums and photos I have seen look like movie stars. 真的。
I have a dress-up picture taken in Shanghai (in Qing? period costume) briefly considered for use as my avatar. Boy am I glad I never did.

September 09, 2009, 02:47 AMOh, how I wish I lived in Shanghai! Very best wishes for this new venture Jenny.
Actually I wonder if Jenny ever sleeps at night or does anything except work! She must be one of those 'workaholics'!
I had an uncle who was a workaholic. He used to get through 2 bottles of workahol every day. Take care Jenny!

November 02, 2009, 04:07 AMAww... wish I could attend. But I'm in New York. Maybe Cpod can open up a school here in the Big Apple... I'm sure lots of students would attend. =D
Good luck, Jenny!

November 02, 2009, 09:21 AMHey, are there any plans to run the lessons for the other levels (crosses fingers for Elementary/Intermediate)
jennyzhu
November 03, 2009, 03:34 AMThanks for your warm wishes.
@Vera,
It's so great to see you on the site. Are you enjoying living and working in the States? Wish to see you next year!
@thecomakid,
We are launching two levels this month: elementary and a 'bridge' course to help students transition from ele to intermediate. The web pages will be up in a few days. You will see more information very soon.
@justintae,
That would be our long term plan.

November 04, 2009, 04:34 AM@ jennyzhu - cheers the "bridge" class sounds exactly what I'm after. I'm sure I'm not the only one either...

November 22, 2009, 05:44 AMGreat idea - congratulations. I'll be visiting Shanghai in 2010 for work. Improving enough to take a class like that would be possible by then, but I reckon I'd be a bit tongue-tied, being in the same room as the famous laoshi I've listened to every day for months.
