How to make lesson sets?

March 25, 2010, 07:36 AMHi all,
I just made the changes to the FAQ with assistance from the helpful instructions above contributed by babardwan and bodawei. Let me know if it's still unclear.
Cheers,

March 12, 2010, 08:51 AMHi Ousijia
I'm glad Xiaophil raised this - and thanks for the response. But does the link take you to instructions? You might have to lead us through it. It would be great if there was an easy reference section for this kind of function.

March 12, 2010, 11:06 AMSorry xiaophil, ousijia narrowly beat me to it by a mere 3 hours.I've done it once before so if you have any probs let me know and I'll see if I can remember how to do it.

March 12, 2010, 04:30 PMOkay, I admit defeat. I tried a long time ago to make a lesson set without success. Tonight I have tried following the instructions but I am defeated when it says add lessons to your lesson set. It does not say how, and it is not intuitively obvious. Anyone help?

ok mate,I've just created a set to jog my memory. So you got to the point where you had to add lessons. At this point you need to have made sure you have clicked on "back to manage archive" so you can see all your lessons that are in your archive.Next step is to tick on the boxes to the left of the lessons that you want to choose. Then immediately above the lessons you will see a button labelled "remove" and to the right of this is "more actions".Click on the drop down list under "more actions" and you should see the label you created as one of the options. When you click on this you will see the system say it is updating and presto ,you've created your set.You can then click on edit labels and go back and click on the pencil icon of your set to make it public and add an avatar if you want.IHTH.Ask again if you get stuck.Cheers mate :)

I just replied but for some reason it's not showing up.Just as well I'm paranoid and always copy before posting and then check. Here's what I'd replied:

March 13, 2010, 12:05 AMDid someone post something in this thread 24 minutes ago? Because the conversation page suggests there was a post 24 minutes ago and yet nothing has shown up.Erqie, when I hit reply to bodawei above ,it did not work so I had to post my reply to him as a new post [under join the discussion] rather than as a subthread reply to his question.I don't think reply is working again on the non lesson threads, well at least not on this one.

I have posted twice to this thread yesterday without it showing up - but it registered on the Community board as a post (if you know what I mean.)

March 13, 2010, 02:51 AMThanks Barbs - ChinesePod would do well to edit FAQ along the lines suggested below. [Bababardwan contributed #8, I edited #7.]
.....
5.Click the pencil icon to edit the preferences of the lesson set
6.Should you wish to share the set with other users, choose ‘Yes' under ‘Shared Status'. If it is shared, you also have the option of adding an image and description that other users will see.
7.Once you've created the set (still with no lesson in it) and edited its specifics, you can begin to add lessons. Clicking ‘Save' will send you back to the ‘Archive Labels' page, where you must click ‘Back to Manage Archive', in order to select lessons from your archive to add to the set.
8. So you got to the point where you would like to add lessons. At this point you need to have made sure you have clicked on "back to manage archive" so you can see all your lessons that are in your archive. Next step is to tick on the boxes to the left of the lessons that you want to choose. Then immediately above the lessons you will see a button labelled "remove" and to the right of this is "more actions". Click on the drop down list under "more actions" and you should see the label you created as one of the options. When you click on this you will see the system say it is updating and presto ,you've added a lesson to your newly created set. You can then click on edit labels and go back and click on the pencil icon of your set to make it public and add an avatar if you want.
[#9 is Redundant, but for information it is included here.] 9. Return to ‘Manage Archive' and select lessons to add to specific sets. (To learn how to manage the lessons in your personal archive, see "How can I manage the content of ‘My Lessons', my personal lesson archive?")

March 13, 2010, 03:09 AMAh, I have another question.
I am going swimmingly; I've added three lessons to my set. I've done these by searching for the lesson, bookmarking, then going to Manage Archive where the Lesson is now at the top of the list. I tick the box and sing More Actions add it to my lesson set. So far so good.
The fourth lesson I want to add I previously subscribed to, so I can't 'bookmark' it to get it to the top of the list. Furthermore, when I list Active lessons it shows only one page. The lesson I want is way down the list but it does not show.
Does anyone know how to locate a lesson to add to a set by ticking the box as described in #8 above? Barbs?
bababardwan
2 things;down the bottom of the archive should be some numbers to click on to see the rest.
Secondly try unsubscribing and then bookmarking again to get to top of list...gotta dash, back later mate :)

The numbers are missing - I have tried it a few times but will try again. Maybe it is a glitch.
If all else fails I will un-suscribe - thanks for that creative idea.
I gotta dash too - got a date with a vampire. (The latest Twilight film.)

March 18, 2010, 10:48 AMBarbs was right, as he often is. :-)
To add lessons to lesson sets you need to un-subscribe each one and then bookmark it to bring it to the top of your list.
Is it possible, ChinesePod, to revise your guidelines so that they are more user friendly? All the material you need is in this thread. The guidelines for making lesson sets at present are .. um ..atrocious (not too strong a word?) Constructive criticism I hope.
