Help! Lost some of my vocabulary
wildyaks
October 14, 2007, 04:26 AM posted in General DiscussionCan anybody help me? I noticed a while ago that some of my saved vocabulary disappeared. Is there a time limit to how long it is stored? ... I am a slow learner and do not own yet all of that earlier vocab...
Is there a way to retrieve it? Or do I have to go back to the lessons and save it again?

October 16, 2007, 01:40 PMI lost 400 or so words apparently randomly about three weeks ago. The only possible clue is that the day before it happened, I deleted a word from the list that had a custom tag I'd added as a test. (I actually wanted to delete the tag afterwards, not the word, but I don't think you can remove a tag?) Anyway - that was the first time I'd deleted anything from my vocab, and then a huge chunk went missing - but I'm pretty sure it didn't happen straight away, so maybe the two things aren't related. I have tried to reproduce it in the interests of science (as opposed to language acquisition :) but (fortunately?) it hasn't happened again!

October 14, 2007, 07:46 AMThat's odd. I hope there's not a time limit, as I plan on saving everything here forever. How was it tagged? Perhaps it's just lost?

October 15, 2007, 03:16 AMHi Wildyaks, We are currently investigating the problem and was wondering if you could PM me and send me any information you think might be of any help such as the number of words in those deleted list, etc. :-) I'd appreciate any feedback to can provide.

October 15, 2007, 08:40 PMJust wanted to pipe in to echo what Eileen said and let everyone know that we're aware this is an issue, and we'll be doing our best to fix it soon. From reading Scottyb's comments and some of the emails Eileen has forwarded, I want to ask if anyone has lost data from untagged vocabulary lists. We're trying to replicate the problem locally. It would be useful to know if anyone has had problems losing untagged data?

October 16, 2007, 03:57 AMHi ScottyB, I'm sorry you didn't get my email. I checked my inbox and I was sure that I sent you a reply back after you PMed me.

October 16, 2007, 11:35 AMNo problem, I didn't mean to sound like I was complaining. It just really did occur to me that rebuilding those lists might be a useful exercise.

October 15, 2007, 03:43 PMThis happened to me as well. It seemed really random, although the tagged lists I lost were big (one included all my verbs)! I was pretty distressed at first, but when I didn't hear back I just resigned myself to rebuilding the lists. I guess if it's high frequency language, it will all come up again soon enough.

October 14, 2007, 06:16 AMActually, this is probably a bug we've had reported by a few other listeners. Eileen knows more about it; she's been working hard to get it fixed. The tech team is working on pinpointing and fixing that bug now.
