Ni hao!

Just wanted to say hello to all and say what a great site and service this is.  I took the trial subscription and found it absolutely addictive and a very enjoyable learning experience.  I will be taking up a subscription very soon and looking forward to getting stuck in big time!

Hey kytnan,

Yes, very addictive. Look forward to seeing you on the boards. I'm curious about your last comment which I presume starts with 等会儿再 ..that is...in a short while I'll again....what's the shou? Following your preceding comment I couldn't help but think how it's English homophone "show" would be fitting here....wait a bit and I'll show up again. If it's shou as in hand then zai meaning "at" would fit the English expression "at hand"...wait a while and I'll be at hand. ..or could it be, wait a bit and I'll again [put my] hand [to][/pen] some posts. Or is it shou as in receive?...I'll again receive your podcasts. Or was that meant to be shuo?..wait a bit and I'll again come back and have something to say. I think I may be just having a blank moment on shou though. Anyhow, welcome mate :)

ps great to see a brand newbie jumping straight in with posting some Chinese. Well done !

我觉得他说‘等会儿再受’

My guess: 'Just waiting (suffering) a short time more' (and it is just a guess - I haven't heard this before)

I have a 'shou' for Heard it On The Street: I was buying some vegetables and handing the person a number of items, she added them up and I paid, then I noticed I was still holding a bag and handed it to her thinking I hadn't paid for it. She just said 收啊!shou a! (I've got - received - it!). I'd never heard that before. Now 收啊!

actually I was going to say my guess of "I'll again receive your podcasts" was my favoured one...and while on that shou I did think of endure, hehe, but I didn't think an enthusiastic post like that would then say I'll endure/suffer through your podcasts...I didn't think of enduring the wait.....do you think that would fit grammatically?..contextually?...hmmmaybe

dui bu qi! Wo de cuowu! (hope that's ok)

Thanks for the warm welcome bababardwan looking forward to further discussions.

Yes indeed, it should of course be 'shuo' instead of 'shou', this is actually a common mistake I make by putting the 'o' in front of the 'u' , in a lot of cases not just here. I will have to rectify that but its early days , only started the newbie podcasts in mid April, hadn't much knowledge before that!

What that phrase is meant to translate to is ' Talk soon' and I am now thinking it may not be correct? I started conversing with a Chinese colleague only recently and I get little titbit's of phrases every now and then since I told her I am learning Mandarin, Its very light stuff but very enjoyable to get from a native speaker. This phrase came from a conversation I had over skype, however I may not have replicated it entirely correctly! Thats what happens when you jump in too fast! If anyone can verify that for me it would be cool!

hi ktynan, welcome to ChinesePod..

I'd say you can't go better than 再见 zai4jian4 for 'Later!'

And 我写错了 wo3 xie3 cuo4le (I wrote that incorrectly).

The simplest way is usually the best way.

Actually I think 等会儿再说 may have a rather different connotation to the one you intended. I think it may be a way of closing down a conversation if the speaker is having difficulty dealing with something, or just 'not now'. Check your Skype message? I remember having a difficult thing to discuss and I heard something along these lines several times. Maybe someone else will give you a view on this.
