Web page for deconstructing Chinese characters

I hope some podies may find it of interest. Also, I estimate that it will take 150-300 hours of work to enter data for all characters used on the HSK (sets A, B, C and D). So, it may be a while before I get there, if ever. If you want to pitch in, or run with the idea yourself, send me a PM and maybe we can work something out.

Chinese Daily (Täglich Chinesisch)
Until today I did 1564 characters.
My goal are the most important 2200 characters (97.5 % understanding).

I found it interesting that one of the criteria for testing proficiency in the world record attempt was:
Test on the proficiency of using a dictionary:
Knowing how to use a dictionary is a very important part for literacy.
Furthermore,surprisingly they allow:
twenty (20) minutes is allowed for the attempter to use a dictionary to check his or her previous test sections.
...which can be used to improve your score on the test.
..so I'm looking forward to this weeks lesson on same.Jiayou changye.

The true Chinese sentence (especially in classic writings) adheres to no word ordering.
..woohoo.If this be true then I'm doin' ok,I knew I was onto something,I'm just a really traditional guy,hehe.Those that can't follow me are just demonstrating a generation gap type thing.I dunno,kids these days...

November 18, 2009, 08:19 AMCool stuff, Mark! I do it similarly, depending on the complexity of the character. I find http://www.chineseetymology.com and http://www.zhongwen.com to be helpful in this regard. This way of remembering the characters is really helpful, I think.

November 18, 2009, 10:44 PMit's awesome,ajax is now quite widely used in web application such as google map,google search and so on,i'm now working in IBM china CSTL department ,quite a lot of projects are applied with ajax tech to enhance the user's experience

November 22, 2009, 06:46 PMI took Andrew_C's suggestion and used CC-EDICT to populate the definition and pronounciation data. The result is the the page now functions as a 字典 （provided you know he pinyin or can copy-paste the character).
However, I still have a lot of work to do to populate the data for what other characters and radicals the current character is composed of, and what other characters contain the current character.

November 22, 2009, 07:17 PMmy suggestion was more than that, I was specifically referring to using a website like MDBG, which has a lot of character decompositions available, to get character decompositions.

November 18, 2009, 08:00 AMif it's going to take 150-300 hours, why not just try to write some code to scrape MDBG or some other web page which already has a lot of this decomposition data? or maybe just ask them nicely for access to their character decompositions in an accessible format.
