Fixing the MP3 Download Problem

We have been getting a lot of comments saying that there are problems with the MP3 download. MP3s download as "htm" files rather than "mp3" files. Some report that the MP3s work if they are simply renamed, but others say even that doesn't work.

We are very eager to fix this problem, but there's a big obstacle. We have been completely unable to reproduce the error that is being reported. All MP3 downloads work fine for us over here. To fix a bug, you have to be able to reproduce it, and so far, we can't.

Therefore, I am asking for some help. If you're NOT having this problem, please let me know, along with your operating system, browser (and version), location, and account type.

If you ARE having this problem, please tell me which files you can't download, your operating system, browser (and version), location, and account type.

We really want to put this bug behind us! A good number of replies to this post will help us a lot. Thanks, everybody, for your support.

ok - well, I am not sure you are going to like this(!), because it is baffling me too. I downloaded the last three intermediate dialogues some days ago at work using a windows laptop with XP and IE5 and got 3 html files. (B0477, B0482, B0487). Now, when I look from home, using a windows laptop with XP and IE6, the file extension seem to be mp3. The same is true of the last two upper intermediates including D0483. The Intermediates seem to be fine however (C0486 and C0488) - but it is possible I downloaded those from home! When I get to work, I will see what they look like from there. (Here's the rub - I just tried to post this at home with IE6 and I couldn't - the button just changed to 'waiting', so I am posting it with Firefox. I have had the same trouble with Spanishsense - WHAT is going on guys?!!)

Incidentally, one minor annoyance - when I make a new paragraph in a comment, it does not appear in the text on the page - so everything is jumbled together. Like this.

Wooops, sorry - problem of racing to post this when just off to work. Of course, in my explanation about downloading files, I meant Elementary not intermediate when I talked about B0477 etc.

It looks like you can use Firefox which is pretty much similar to Internet Explorer 7. Actually IE 7 is a copy like look of Firefox. Anyways, those who don't have the IE7 yet, you can use Firefox.

I have NOT had this problem with neither Firefox 2.0.0.4 nor IE 6 or 7 on Windows XP and Vista(hate it!), neither from China or America where I am now. I do recall the problem happening JUST after the switch to V3, but haven't seen it recently.

NOT having this mp3 problem Mac OX 10.4.10 Firefox 2.0 and Safari 2.0.4 Arizona Basic plan FYI On firefox, it used to have that bar with the play symbol (triangle shaped thing-a-ma-bob) which I click to play, but no longer. It's still on Safari though.

I've only had this problem because our company proxy server scans files and displays a waiting page so I have to wait for that to server the file. At home I don't believe I've had the problem. I use Firefox 2.0.0.5 on both Ubuntu 7.04 and Windows XP Professional.
