I've been listening to lots of Chinese media discussion recently (TV news show debates etc.etc.) and have come across a pattern again and again which I'd love to understand better.
什么什么也好。。。。什么什么也好
I first came across the 也好 pattern in the lesson on Shanghai Architecture, if my memory serves. I didn't quite get it then, and I still don't get it now.
It could well be that this ‘也好’ pattern is too simple to do an entire Qing Wen on. If so, how about a show on the way you could introduce lists in a conversation (which could include using things like 啊, and any other tricks you might know)

July 30, 2012 at 1:53 PMAs ouyangjun pointed out, Shanghainese are famous for their contempt (strong word, but I'll stick by it) of those benighted Chinese unfortunate enough to have been born beyond city limits. Jenny was certainly pointing to this, rather than any xenophobic tendency. Because of their city's history, Shanghainese seem to be among the most accepting of foreign influence and the most suspicious (Cantonese and ethnic minorities excepted) of Beijing's influence.

August 6, 2012 at 11:00 AM"Nature's prime directive holds incentives even in language learning" is one of the best sentences I've read in ages. I think I might have to add that to my list of 'cool phrases'. It would also seem to go a long way to explain the sizeable number of 猥琐外国男 who while away their days in China's hinterland, no?:) Not saying everyone out there is learning a little of the lingo in order to increase mating opportunities. Just saying that, quite obviously, some are.
