August 29, 2009 at 11:49 AMYou don't actually hear it (crystal clear) joe, but it's there. You're hearing authentic everyday Chinese as it's spoken. Just like in any language, sometimes sounds get truncated, dropped or garbled.

That paper money for burning is called Hell money right? How come there's no burning of paper Rolls Royces and stuff? There's a great business opportunity for some bright spark.
My first time in Shanghai I was slipped a fake 50RMB note by a taxi driver, as I discovered to my joy when trying to buy medicine for a streaming cold. The next day I wrapped it round a 1 yuan coin and dropped into the hat (?) of a beggar woman in the street. Man, did she jump on it! That's what I say is, spread a little happiness, why not?

August 30, 2009 at 12:06 AMI think giving a watch is OK, especially as it's a gift from husband to wife, (I mean obviously they have a close relationship. I think the taboo on giving clocks as gifts applies mainly when you're giving a gift to a person you're not really that close to.)
