September 5, 2009 at 7:56 AMThanks again to the Shanghai Trio. Somehow I've only just realised that we now have PDFs with Qing Wen lessons - wonderful stuff!

September 1, 2009 at 1:36 PMThanks, Pete. I'll be swearing off those stimulating onions in future. I'd not heard about the roots before - although a quick google search suggests that some strict Jains avoid them because of the harm to small creatures whilst digging them up.

August 31, 2009 at 7:28 PMBaba, that is the most hopeless cat I've ever seen.
We have to perform regular impromptu rat-funerals thanks to our cat, Bod. And if there were any mice, they moved out long ago. We also saw Bod stalking a 狐狸 (hu2li - fox) once. Fortunately, we managed to distract him before he pounced and got more than he bargained for.

August 22, 2009 at 8:38 AMThe first time I used the Bamboo One, I was all over the place. But now I find that I'm using it for day-to-day stuff as well. The mini training video that comes with the Bamboo One is good. There are a couple of strokes that it seems to have trouble with but that seem fine with a mouse - for example the down-stroke on the side hand radical 扌seems curiously tricksy (mutters of "that's what I drew, you swine!"), which is probably to do with the pen pressure whilst making the stroke or something - but the more I get used to it, the more these problems seem to magically disappear.

August 18, 2009 at 6:18 AMThere's a minor problem with the exercises for this lesson. Under the multiple choice questions, no. 6
你___不早点儿告诉我?
怎么 seems to be marked wrong, instead of right.
[Edit: Just realised that "no. 6" doesn't help much, as the lessons are randomised...]

August 17, 2009 at 7:28 AMNot too bad on a trackpad - I have a netbook, and can't take my bamboo around with me everywhere, so I use skritter with the trackpad quite a lot.

August 16, 2009 at 3:03 PMThere's no poecy over here in the UK that I know about. My dictionary (Oxford Concise) goes straight from podzol (!) to poem. The earliest instance in English is around 1378, apparently, where it is spelt poysye.
Anyway, I'm veering further off-topic here. Thanks for the nice and clear 做/作 clarification, Changye.

September 5, 2009 at 11:00 AMSpooky! It seems to be working OK over here (although I've just had a lot of coffee, so perhaps I'm running on the same speed, and not noticing...)
