My swimming experience in Shanghai was pretty good. Nice long lanes, lots of lanes, with signs explaining how to swim in a lane (keep to the right), and lifeguards enforcing them. Pretty civilized.
However, my China moment came in the change room when the lady who was changing next to me vomited on the floor at her (and my) feet and then just carried on ignoring the vomit. We called the girl at the health desk to come see if the lady was OK, but nobody cleaned up the vomit. It just remained. So much for the heath check!
