I hate how too many other Chinese classes or lessons have an overly optimistic tone in the way they teach the language. Chinesepod's approach (especially in this lesson) is far more realistic in dialogue actually encountered in actual situations.
With that said, for westerners wondering why the parents don't kick the kids out, understand that there is a flip side to this.
As a parent, you can never kick out your kid, no matter how much of a lazy mooch.
However, as a son or daughter, you can never kick out your parents (should they move in with you) no matter how annoying they get or how much of your privacy is lost.
