Well the saga is nearly over, fellow poddies. I have iTunes recognising my iPod, hooray! I have all my old music, photos and podcast files, but I did lose most of my apps (including Pleco unfortunately) - I was hoping it would prompt me to upload the ones I had but it seems that I have to search for them manually back at the iTunes Store. Let's say 'out with the old and in with the new' on that score. After several hours on this I can say I learnt how to solve the problem, I have a working iPod, and a fresh looking screen - now how do I find that wall paper I used to like? :)

I'm still hoping I can blame iTunes.. :) I love my iPod and it is working fine, doing everything it should, it just feels misunderstood.

I am currently updating the software from iTunes; previously it would not do this so my new copy of iTunes is at least behaving differently to the last. It says that this is how you reset the iPod. I'm giving that a go, but thanks again for your help.

I'm back where I was a couple of days ago. Have uninstalled iTunes and everything else with Apple beside it, and reinstalled a new version of the software. The cable and USB work - I have just uploaded photos from my iPod, and it charges the iPod. But iTunes still does not read my iPod - it says: 'iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod 'X'. Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory settings.'

Here we go again. It has taken me back to a software update operation but I just a few moments ago reinstalled a fresh copy of iTunes. I'll give it one more go and then I will place my iPod on a flat surface. Maybe the Manual should include some choice incantations? :)

Again thanks very much Baba. I went and got the good oil this morning; I was advised to use ByeTunes from Remove-it.org to kill iTunes for good and start again. It is a little 278kb program and it took about two minutes to remove iTunes. (Feeling very relieved.) The blurb says that iTunes unistall files can get corrupted - that looks like what my problem was. I don't know what the original problem was; just hope it works from now on.

Thanks for your tip svik - I believe the USB functions fine, it will still charge my iPod, which of course is done through the USB connection.

I am told this problem is not uncommon and that there is non-Apple software available to kill my iTunes.

Thanks Baba - I should be getting up to date, hey. I have been reading about pregnancy in English but so far have exactly three words in Chinese.

怀孕了

大肚子 (for referring to someone, not used in face to face communication)

胎儿 :)

Oh and 单生胎儿 (report on ultrasound)

Thanks toianw - nice research. So I am guessing we also have C-Scan now too? I have heard of 3D ultrasounds but don't know any more than that. But then I have a problem conceptualising the one-dimensional A-scan as well. Maybe it is like the depth sounder used in ships. You get occasional readings and interpolate the terrain of the ocean floor.

That's cool to get some background on how the lessons are made, thanks Dilu. 'fancy' coffee shops - is that code for Starbucks?
