September 25, 2008 at 1:01 PMRJ, I think mine is a male. It's a shame you got rid of yours, we could have hooked them up!
I guess a lot of people outside of North America wouldn't be familiar with this mythological creature (half human, half animal), who allegedly lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia.
His/Its name is Big Foot (sometimes called Sasquatch):
大腳 dàjiǎo
So if you want to say 大家好 (hello everybody), make sure you don't say 大腳好 (hello big foot)!

September 25, 2008 at 3:51 AMAnother question about:
你家里能上网吗?
nǐ jiā lǐ néng shàngwǎng ma?
Can you go online at home?
Would someone please explain the use of 家里 jiā lǐ here? Literally, this would be "You inside home able to go online?"
I guess I'm used to the 在家 zài jiā construction when talking about at home:
你在家能上网吗? (Is this okay?)
nǐ zài jiā néng shàngwǎng ma?
我每天在家吃早饭。
wǒ měitiān zài jiā chī zǎofàn.
Any insights into the differences between 在家 and 家里 would be appreciated. Thanks!

September 25, 2008 at 2:12 AMTo make my above question even more confusing, I just did the exercises. The answer to question 2 (Exercise 3) is shang4lai5 !

September 25, 2008 at 1:53 AMI noticed a difference in 上来 shànglái and 下来 xiàlai. I thought maybe it was a typo that lai in xiàlai was missing a 2nd tone. One dictionary had it as a neutral tone and another had it as a 2nd tone.
Is there a reason the 来 in 上来 would be 2nd tone, but neutral in 下来. I guess in the big scheme of things it doesn't matter because everyone will know the meaning.
I loved the crack in the guy's voice in this dialogue...he sounded like a teenage boy on his first date. Probably good that he had to walk up 5 flights!

September 23, 2008 at 8:52 PMGood song...the lead singer has a really great voice. Fun video too. Reminds me of 80's electronic.
This would be a good song for a Vocab Tour video!

September 25, 2008 at 1:51 PMMy apologies bababardwan...I thought you were being sarcastic with the question in your previous post :)
I haven't heard of Australia's Yowie before. Thanks for the info. and the link. I guess every part of the world has its crazies who will start things like this. Or maybe they aren't crazy.....will we ever know?!
