May 29, 2008 at 12:59 AMHi Alice, thanks for asking...the earliest I can move is end of July, once I fulfill all of my work obligations...but I also need to sell my place. Anyone looking to buy a loft in Chicago?!
Thanks for opening the door to my little plug:) I'm ready for the big move to the wonderful capital of Taiwan...

May 29, 2008 at 12:40 AMI'm curious about the following expansion sentence:
我怎么什么都听不见了?
wǒ zěnme shénme dōu tīngbùjiàn le?
(How come I can't hear anything?)
What's the function of 什么 shénme? I assumed that 怎么 zěnme would take care of the question "how come?".

May 27, 2008 at 1:52 AMTaipei 101 really is an amazing architectural feat. If you get a chance, go up to the observation deck and check out the wind damper (风阻尼器 fēng zǔní qì)....I think it's the heaviest in the world (about 900 tons!). Even the damper has a nice aesthetic to it. Here's a nice little fact sheet on 101.

May 26, 2008 at 9:38 PMHi everyone. In the following two expansion sentences... 这个手表很便宜,只要20块。 (This watch is really cheap--only 20 RMB.) 我只有十块钱。 (I only have 10 RMB.) Why doesn't the first sentence have 钱 following 20块, like the second sentence does? Is it optional to say 钱 if the context of money is obvious? Thanks!
