April 23, 2010 at 5:53 AMMark, have the same issue! When I try to speak French, Chinese comes out :-)
German & English (and Dutch) is fine, but somehow the second most strange language is pushed to the back of my head and replaced by Chinese. I heard other people have this as well.

April 18, 2010 at 8:35 AMHi Suxiaoya,, not sure of I understand you correctly :-), but the lesson was visible when I went to the N&F channel and it was displayed on top of the list. I did not have to choose a different "view" to see it displayed. Because of the subscription to this channel, I expected it to appear in my dashboard.

April 17, 2010 at 1:56 AMThis lesson did not appear in my dashboard and found it accidentally when a user comment appeared in my dashboard. Maybe a note / link about this new lesson / series in the dashboard would bring it to the attention of users (who by default have not a subscription on this channel?) :-)

April 11, 2010 at 7:16 AMMaybe I can share a bit of my experiences here. It is a rainy Sunday in Nanjing so here we go.... I have been studying with Cpod fro a year or 2 and have now been in university for almost 2 months. To be honest I have the feeling that maybe I should have done this earlier, because I never learnt so much in such a short period. When I just started in class, I could hardly read, let alone write. In a few weeks this has improved really a lot and can keep up with the class without making a fool of myself haha. I have 18 classes a week + 4 extra HSK classes and with the homework and preparation this is more than a full time job :-).
I think that "good old" offline teaching cannot be replaced by online teaching (as it is now), but together they are the best thing out there. In a class there is more interaction and you are immersed in the language. IF I try to speak English, they will kindly remind me we are in China and here we speak Chinese. Also with the visuals and extra cultural information, for me it sticks better somehow. Besides that I do not want to "look stupid" when I read aloud so a little peer pressure is a great motivation. Also you have similar minded people, which is nice for a change (my husband changes the topic within 5 minutes if I speak about Chinese)! Also Chinese uni teachers are quite demanding (sometimes even fierce or scary) and regularly have tests,, homework and the pace in general is very high. A right dose of fear (or challenge) from time to time also can be very beneficial for study results :-).
However, I think that Cpod is a perfect way to start and get (and stay) excited about the language and later on is an excellent addition for those who need something else on the side (HSK, more formal training etc).
Also thanks to Cpod, my listening skills are relatively good and I know (more natural) vocab and real life China stuff than other students who had regular education at a uni back home (and no Cpod). Also because the vocab is so practical you can quickly get around in China! There are people who studied at a uni for 2 or 3 years and have difficulties in real China. On the other hand I have the feeling missed out on all the more academic and linguistic vocab which is used to explain Chinese IN Chinese. Also I for me more traditional grammar approach works better to grasp the language.
In retrospect, I think I was a bit silly to NOT formally study Chinese in China earlier :-). So if you have the chance, get out there and do it! Last thing, when I come home after school, I always check Cpod and try to study the class because it is so much fun! So IF you have the chance get the best of both! If not, Cpod for me is the best next thing...
