January 15, 2009 at 1:17 PMJust noticed something odd with the voting system. First this lesson had an average of 2.90 and (0) voters. Then I voted 4* and the "average" went to 4 and 1 voter. All the old votes seem to disappear....

January 15, 2009 at 8:02 AMMy experiences in China are quite good (incredibly fast through customs and they even helped me with a big suitcase). When I travelled with friends their lighters passed security twice. Unfortunately, I had to give op my 25 Euro hand cream. Still think lighters are more dangerous. I begged the security lady to use it herself its too good to throw away. In retrospect: maybe that is exactly what she wanted. Last summer I brought back home 2 big Chinese kitchen knifes in my luggage without any hassle :-). Makes a great gift.

January 15, 2009 at 3:08 AMDoes anyone know what the other Laowise lessons are besides this and the massage one? A search does not give any results back. Thx!

January 12, 2009 at 3:28 AMAs "Nanjingren" I totally agree with Pete :-). For those who want to have a look at the Jade section in the Nanjing museum there is a little tour when you press the "玉器馆" button (you can find the "Jade Man" here).

Lol exactly! Marrying out of love is so old fashioned ;-). Who does that anymore these days?
I do not consider myself old (and think it is a bit tacky haha), but I also love 邓丽君. Just bought 3 cd's for 1 Euro here at the Suguo!

You and your show are absolutely fabulous! Good luck in NY!
Posted on: Will you Marry Me?
January 9, 2009 at 10:09 AMChina was the (direct) reason why I got married :-). My husbands company "suggested" it was easier if we were married (visa etc) before we were expatriated here. Because that took the fun and surprise a bit away (short notice, hectic times, no ring etc): I decided to ask my husband myself to marry me (which was a big surprise I can tell you!). Leads me to the following questions: Can girls ask guys in China? Does this happen? What would they say (this specific question could only be used by men if i understood this right)? Btw is qǔ the same used as in qu4 qian2 (withdraw money)?
Posted on: Studying Japanese
January 9, 2009 at 9:41 AMYes, I agree: I read the book about Kamakura written by an English lady who married a Japanese offical. I don't like Disney so no plans for that :-).
What I found very interesting was the amount of Dutch words which entered the Japanese language in the 17th century! So I already know a few without knowing it...

January 9, 2009 at 8:28 AMIrek,
Thx a lot for your suggestion!
Dear Changye,
Thank you so much for all the information, I am very happy to see all the info. Japan was number one on my "things I have to do / see" and waited for 31 years to have the chance to visit for which I'm very grateful. I am really looking forward to it! We will stay with family friends in Kamakura and then 4 days Tokyo. I want to take the time for the city and come back to see more of Japan another time. I just bought 2 Japanese learning books (in English, Learning Japanese in Chinese was a bit too much for me), which was quite hard here in China. I feel a bit bad to discuss this on Chinesepod (hint hint: btw I really hope for a Jpod one day ;-) ), but Japanese will be my next language when my Chinese is a bit better. Otherwise i get confused I guess hahah! I'm already mixing up too many languages sometimes...There are quite some similarities between hanzi and some Japanese characters (Kanji?), but with the different scripts things get a bit confusing for me. I will get into it though and it will be more clear at a point in time! Again thank you!

January 16, 2009 at 1:12 AMMaybe I just had bad luck :-) Have to admit I only went to Beijing three times and take most of my taxi's in Nanjing and Shanghai. Let's see how it goes next time!
