Posted on: I want coffee!
December 10, 2008 at 3:34 AMMy coffee habits only changed slightly in China. Here I can only choose from 2 Senseo brands in stead of 20+ back home *sigh*. If we run out of Senseo (sometime Metro's supply chain is a bit random) i'm a Nescafe girl. Btw, the best coffee in Nanjing is available at an Italian restaurant (owner from Napoli!) and we think it is similar to what you get in Italy. I really don't know why expats get a hardship allowance ;-).

Posted on: Stopped at the Gate
November 4, 2008 at 4:39 AMI also live in a gated community in China. One day we returned home a little later than usual and the security guy would not let us in. Obviously the guy was new and did his job, but we really wanted to go home! After a few friendly request he still would not let us in we were puzzled a bit. We showed our keys, business card etc. but no luck. Eventually I got really mad and started screaming "I live here" (in Chinese). That somehow seemed to do the trick.

October 18, 2008 at 1:26 AMLast weekend I was in Beijing and had a look at a Hutong. Very interesting experience! Have not listened to the show yet (still bad dl.), but next friday I am in Shanghai and would like to see some Shikumen homes: any particular suggestions? Thx!
