As far as I know you do not need an English driving rules study book, but money and someone to take the test to sit next to you behind the computer :-).

I guess I won't be asking her to buy me some 话梅 anytime soon :-)

bababardwan, good question! Well one of the thoughts that crossed my mind (for this specific lesson) was she might think I am (thinking about getting) pregnant. Also because my husband and I married like half a year ago, i was drawing the pregnancy character (because I found it a very interesting one) and some other context i will not get into on Cpod :-) Then in no time my driver knows and my husband's colleagues etc. hahaha. Cultural aspect: it amazes me how fast "news" travels in a Chinese community.

Also, I have  been asked about children a lot by Chinese and know it is very very important and they assume it is similarly important to me.

Actually I think I can ask her about anything because she is really open minded. Next time I just ask, but will she really answer the question? I thought it just was funny and did not want to embarrass her by asking and off course this could all be just in "my head", but then again I have been often right about cultural subtleties.

When I listened to this lesson my ayi was cooking dinner: every now and then I wonder what she thinks of my Chinese lessons (sometimes she stops singing or making noises in the middle of a dialogue and it gets really quiet in the kitchen) (-; .

My downloads are almost finished... sigh... I wish internet was faster in China! :-)

I heard that the long fingernail was like a status symbol: people with long nails are not able to do "hard" work.

My Chinese name is 马秋琳 but I want to change the first character. I do not want to be called a mrs Horse :-). I was thinking about 玛 as in 玛丽? Any suggestions?

Hello, can anyone tell me the difference between 番茄 (fānqié, tomato) and 西红柿 (xīhóngshì, tomato)? Is there a difference at all?
