Hi ncmuck

It seems to be a little too late, but let me say "祝你生日快乐" (zhu4ni2 sheng1ri4 kuai4le4, Happy Birthday to You). I also had "a happy birthday" when I was young, but not anymore now at this age. A Japanese saying goes like this, "New Year's Day is a milestone on the road to the next world." The same is very true for a birthday, hehe.

Hi tvan

Hi kimiik

六害彩 = 自己、家人、朋友、人民、社会、国家。

六害彩 is a sarcastic name for 六合彩. As you know, 彩票 causes a lot of serious problems in the PRC.

As for 彩票, the character 彩 means "prize", and this usage has a long history. 彩票 really makes sense.

骰子 (tou2zi) was originally written as "投子" (tou2zi) because you throw (投) it. Later, "投" was replaced by "骰". As you know, most dices were made of 骨 (bone) in the past. They call a dice "色子" (shai3zi) since it has colored dots on the surface. I hear that "one" and "four" on a Chinese dice are red colored. In Japan, only "one" is red colored. "shai3" is the colloquial sound of 色 (se4), which is mainly used in Bejing dialect.

Hi guys in the PRC

Internet speed has been extremely slow here in my city in the PRC in the past few days, especially for the sites in the USA, Chinesepod included. It's almost impossible to visit Chinesepot in the evening. Is it only me?

Hi salvador

等你 = wait for you
等着(or 著)你 = be waiting for you

着/著 (zhe) is a marker that indicates a kind of "present progressive tense".

Hi carlos

"Marketing" is translated as "市场营销" (shi4chang3ying2xiao1) in Chinese. "I'm in marketing" should be "我是搞(gao3)市场营销的" or "我是个市场营销员(or 市场营销师)". Marketing manager is "市场营销经理".
