December 10, 2008 at 3:10 AMHi pete,
I know the logic behind the fact that there is no English translation in advanced lessons, but I still think that adding translations would be helpful especially for elementary and Intermediate learners who venture to step into the world of advanced Chinese. The least you could show translations for expansion examples.

December 10, 2008 at 2:58 AMHi pete,
After I came to China, I discovered that Nescafe was more tasty than I had thought before, at least, the instant coffee (速溶咖啡, su4 rong2 ka1 fei1) is much better than one served at KFC (肯德基, ken3 de2 ji1).

December 10, 2008 at 12:05 AMLike the character "借" (lend, borrow), "贷" is also used in the sense of "lend" and "borrow". 借 is more colloquial, and 贷 is usually used when lending and borrowing money.

December 9, 2008 at 1:43 AMHi lujiaojie and uoyevol,
Thanks a lot for your useful advice! Looks like "左右" is the most natural word among the three in this case.
Hi uoyevol,
Your avatar, 圣斗士星矢, is just cool!

December 9, 2008 at 1:36 AMHi pete,
I know nothing about 奥曼兄弟, but I'm very familiar with 奥特曼兄弟 (Ultraman brothers). Nearly all Japanese people know them.

December 8, 2008 at 7:14 AMThanks, pete and connie!
One more question. Are these three examples all correct and natural? If so, it would be very convenient for us foreign learners!
(A) 我想买一台五千元左右的电脑。
(B) 我想买一台大约五千元的电脑。
(C) 我想买一台大概五千元的电脑。

December 8, 2008 at 6:30 AMHi pete,
Would you please give an advice on the above "大概/大约" discussion? To be honest, I'm a bit confused about their usages. I need your help!

December 10, 2008 at 3:42 AMHi pete,
at 8 yuan for a cup
Not so bad! A cup of coffee at KFC is 5 yuan here in a small city in northeast China (中国东北), but its taste is worse than Nescafe (雀巢). If you want to have a real coffee, it would cost you more than 40 yuan, which is an extravagant price for the standard of living here. Incidentally, I recently use packed milk (牛奶) instead of Coffee Mate (咖啡伴侣, ban4 lv3) at home. I think it's more tasty. I love melamine, haha.
