December 5, 2008 at 2:55 AMI don't know about shops and restaurants in Shanghai or Beijing, but here in northeast China, they are open seven days a week throughout the year, except for Chinese New Year. It's great for us customers, but I know it isn't for employees.
P/S. Some are open even during New Year.

December 5, 2008 at 12:26 AMWhat a shame! I didn't know at all that natto (纳豆) was a good ingredient for sandwiches. I've just found a number of recipes and articles of natto sandwiches on Google Japan. I will make it this evening!

December 4, 2008 at 3:24 AMI never use cheese (奶酪, nai3 lao4) for sandwiches, because it's too expensive here in China. A pack of 10 slices costs more than 20 yuan. I make it a rule not to buy food that is more expensive than that sold in Japan. By the same token, I seldom buy a tuna-can. There is a limited number of ingredients for sandwiches here, so like it or not, cucumbers are a very important ingredient.

There is a Japanese sayng that goes like this, "A man won't feed bait to a fish he's caught." The problem is that recently the saying can be applied to both a man and a woman.

December 3, 2008 at 3:55 AMI usually use 全麦面包 (whole wheat bread) for sandwiches. It's a bit sweet, but much better than other sweet breads.
Incidentally, a sandwich is also translated as "三文治" in Chinese, but 三明治 is much more commonly used than 三文治.

December 5, 2008 at 7:25 AM在日本历史上最后的革命叫做“明治维新”。这个历史性革命的成功让日本成为亚洲第一个近代国家并且避免变成欧洲列强的殖民地。我认为明治维新具有三个特征。
第一：幸亏明治维新发生于19世纪中后期(1867年)，当时刚在欧洲兴起的共产主义没有影响到日本。
第二：明治维新没有产生像毛泽东那样的超级明星，但是全国各地出现了许多革命志士积极推动改革。他们中大多数都是文武双全的日本武士，也就是说当时日本的知识分子。
第三：拥有英雄气质的志士都在内战中丧命。可是拥有实务能力的志士一般都保住性命，都当了新政府的核心领导人。因为明治政府缺乏人才，连封建政府的人才也参加新政府。
日本人口少，浪费不起人才，所以昨天的“反革命分子”也能够成为今天的朋友。这就是日式革命。
