Hi elpeggy,

"现代汉语词典", I mentioned in my comment, is edited by 中国社会科学院语言研究所 and published by 商务印书馆,both of which are very reliable organization/publisher here in China. In general, dictionaries are very conservative, and therefore I believe that words listed in dictionaries are, more or less, acutally used by people. Furthermore, there is the chengyu "约定俗成" in Chinese.

Hi mynameisolya,

我作为一个日本人太羡慕你们俄罗斯人,因为“老毛子”这个词里最起码有“老”字。

Hi bendidelaowai,

I think I know how university students feel about Shenzhou-7 missions. They are too busy worrying about their future and job hunting to care about the gorgeous national project, which I think is a very sound way of thinking.

Hi bill,

Your make-me-envious comment reminds me of "Pioneer plaque" that excited me more than three decades ago! I hope Klingons will not destroy it in the distant future.

Hi daveyjohn,

Please be careful not to get fired, haha. Joking aside, actually schools in China usually give students long summer and winter vacations. Instead, students usually have to take a lot of supplementary lessons, especially at junior high/high school, even during vacations.

Hi rjberki,

Don't worry, that's only a matter of formality. I guess our Cassie also did those "naughty" things when she was a student, haha.

Hi 本地的老外,

Like it or not, the slogan "为人民服务" has alreadly deeply taken root in Chinese socitey, just like "保护环境, 人人有责", and it doesn't carry much political connotation anymore in modern China.

On the contrary, in a sense, the slogan has degenerated into a kind of "joke" especially among the young generation, and it's usually used when mocking poor service still often seen here in China.

I don't think that "八荣八耻" can survive the next decade despite efforts by the CCP, but I'm sure that Chinese people and 老外 will keep using the classic slogan "为人民服务" in many ways.

The word "透析", Pete used in the comment, has two definitions in 现代汉语词典 (第5版/2005, 第4版/2002). One is "dialysis", and another is "彻分,analyze clealy" as Pete explained above.

You can't find the latter definition in 第3版 (1996) of the dictionary, and the word is just defined as "渗析 (shen4 xi1), dialysis" in it. So it seems that 透析 began to be used in the sense of "analyze clearly" relatively recently in China.

You can find some words such as "透析英语" and "试题透析" on the Internet. They are exam prep books. I guess that there are still a lot of native Chinese speakers who don't know the new usage of the word "透析".

Here are the records of three astronauts for Shenzhou-7 mission. China seems to be still heavily dependent on the seniority system!!

刘伯明  二级航天员, 1966年09月出生, 1998年1月入选航天员
景海鹏  二级航天员, 1966年10月出生, 1998年1月入选航天员
翟志刚  二级航天员, 1966年10月出生, 1998年1月入选航天员

....好像是因为《毛主席语录》第十七专题就是“为人民服务”。
