Their family name is 徳川 (tokugawa). In modern Japan, parents tend to name their children without borrowing a kanji in the names of elder generations. Korea still preserves very rigid Confucian traditions in the society. And Korean naming system is also based on them, however I do not know exactly whether or not the custom is still strictly applied to younger generations in modern Korea. And it is completely impossible for me to make it clear in English. All I can say is that the meaning of the following sentences are the same at least. 昨日、私は９時に寝ました。 私は、昨日９時に寝ました。 But in case of the sentence below, the speaker emphasizes “昨日(yesterday)” by adding “は” to “昨日”, by which he slightly implies that he does not always go to bed at nine o’clock. Well, I am going to Karaoke with some friends now. It is 元宵节 in China today! 昨日は、私は９時に寝ました。 私は、昨日は９時に寝ました。
