December 8, 2008 at 9:48 AMI learnt a new piece of vocab a couple of weeks ago, which I thought I'd share in relation to this lesson because of its relevance.
垫钱 dian4 qian2.
It means to pay for something for somebody else and expect the money back later. Its a bit different to the situation we have in this lesson because its not like loaning money for another purpose.
A good example would be 2 flat mates paying their electricity bill. If one doesn't have the money to hand, then they can ask their flat mate to 跟他垫钱 and repay them later.
Understand? If i've not made it very clear just let me know and I'll write some example sentences.

November 9, 2008 at 10:43 AMI have found that those DVDs which stopped half way through on my DVD player in China seem to play fine on my DVD player back in the UK.... odd. Interestingly they wont play on my laptop though!
As for exchanging bad copies, it is a good idea to get in with the 老板. My local DVD shop owner would refuse to sell me bad copies of DVDs. If i took him a relatively new movie and the quailty wasn't great he would always tell me, take the DVD from me and then the next time I would go in he would let me know if he had got a better copy.....what a great guy.

A few weeks ago i came across 积累 and you guys have 累积。
Are they the same or is one better than the other?
I sometimes get characters the wrong way around but I don't think this is one of those occassions.

November 6, 2008 at 11:16 PMAm I right in thinking that the TV in the background at the beginning of the dialogue is about a gold medal won in the olympic swimming?
I can't quite hear it all, but i was just part listening and part writing something down and it really threw me. I was expecting something to do with banking and I heard the reporter talking about the olympics.
Can anybody else make out what she says?

October 22, 2009 at 3:14 PMI had a quick listen to this lesson as I was trying to decide on a topic to discuss with my language partner and ended up having a lot of fun getting into more depth on this with her. She was particularly impressed that I knew what 'PK' was, so thanks for that.
I have ended up with about 4 chinese friends coming over to watch X factor (American Idol in the UK) on Saturday night though!
Can I just ask what is the official name of the show in Chinese? I know of 超级女声 but that was in 2005, right? and I've also heard of 快乐男声 and 快乐女声.....is this a different show? Not being in China at the moment makes it difficult to know!
