March 22, 2008 at 7:43 PMThe song in the background is "Dragostea din tei" by O-Zone probably better known as the "Numa Numa dance" song since the famous video of a guy "dancing" to it in front of his webcam. But I found out there are many translated versions of that song including a Chinese one called 不怕不怕 with lyrics about the fear of cockroaches. It sounds quite good too.

March 21, 2008 at 6:10 PMI'm also a 围棋 player and I like ooka's idea of a lesson on that topic. I also think mentioning Harry Potter is no problem as long as it's not "Learn Chinese with Harry Potter!" or some other blatant attempt to use the trademark's to sell lessons.

I downloaded some of the lessons that have now been removed and while they are interesting the sound quality just isn't the same as the more recent ones and that made them more difficult to follow in a noisy environment such as while riding the bus. The non-sequential nature of the lesson can be a bit confusing. I think that's just because we're so used to lessons being structured in a sequential way. But learning a language is not a sequential process, it's parallel. That's why it's more important to get exposed to a lot of material and never wait for a lesson to be "fully memorized" before going to the next. But clearly it's something you already know well at ChinesePod.

March 20, 2008 at 1:02 PMkechara, that would be 你呢 (nǐ ne) (it sounds like na to me too but I still suck at identifying the sounds and pronouncing the pinyin correctly). According to ChinesePera-kun 呢 is just a question particle. So literally that would be You / (Question Mark). What is the difference between 呢 and 吗? I think it has been mentioned in the lessons that 吗 is for yes/no questions. Is that the difference? Am I over-analyzing things?
