March 20, 2008 at 3:11 AMVery cool podcast! I liked Josh's survival phrases too. Those were 不要 and 没钱, right?

February 16, 2008 at 10:35 AMCome on, the characters are not that bad. Personally, I have an awful handwriting in roman letters but that doesn't mean I haven't used them all my life. So I wouldn't conclude that just because the writing isn't as elegant as some people's, that person doesn't know what she's doing. Besides writing with chalk on a black board is really hard when not used to it.

February 11, 2008 at 2:16 AMSo there is a neutral tone! I was a bit confused since I learned about the 4 tones but I noticed some syllables that didn't seem to have one and I was wondering if I was just not able to hear it. Everything is now clear! Thanks!

March 20, 2008 at 3:25 AMCool lesson! So what would you answer to be polite if you don't really want to say anything about where you're going? Where I live, the question would be seen as a bit rude coming from someone you don't know too well since it would be interpreted as prying too much. So I'd probably just change the subject. How would a Chinese person answer? Also as for the difficulty, as a total newbie currently learning exclusively from ChinesePod, I don't think it's too easy. Sure the lessons are short, but getting started isn't easy with all those difficult sounds and new characters to learn (fortunately I'm already learning the Japanese kanji so I'm used to learning Chinese characters and I have my method for that, but for someone who isn't, I imagine it can be very overwhelming).
