玩 = "war"?  pinyin says it's wan2, but it sure sounds like "war" instead of "wan".  is it just me?

I have a question about the last sentence:

那我去睡觉了。- "I'm going to sleep."

My question is about the 了 at the end.  I thought 了 indicates past tense.  So is 了 appropriate here? Or should the translation be, "I went to sleep."

Also, I thought 了 followed the verb, but is the verb here, 去?
